This is a really tough question! There are so many inventions worth a mention. If you go back as far as prehistoric times you could say the invention of stone tools has revolutionised existence. But if you just look at some modern inventions, the aeroplane and the internet have definitely completely changed the way we live our lives. If I could improve either of these I would try and make flying more environmentally friendly!

This is possibly the hardest question you could ask! I think about this from time to time, and it does depend a lot on how you define ‘important’. One way of deciding how important something is could be by how many lives an invention saves. In this case there are some inventions that are really good, like the smallpox vaccine, penicillin etc. You could also say that without written language (which could counts as an invention!) and the printing press etc then none of these things would have happened. More modern inventions like the internet are certainly important too. What do you think the most important invention is? I’m not sure I could improve any of the ones I’ve mentioned – sorry!

I agree with Clare and would say the answer had to come from way back when: fire. Without fire we would never have developed the rest.
