I have tried 3 different fields, all related but still different. That is the beauty of science. I first studied how external beam radiation killed cells, then how radiation can be targeted to tumours and how the density of DNA affects how well they kill tumour cells and now I am using radiation to image tumours.

I really wanted to work in geophysics at the beginning..then I ended up studying nuclear physics for my PhD.. and now I work in MRI!

I did think about going into the energy sector and learning more about nuclear power, which wouldn’t have been that different to what I’m doing now! Just using radiation to help people in a different way 😀

Nope always wanted to use science to help people ! So even if i did engineering i believe i would still go into clinical engineering and get involved in artificial prosthesis or new medical devices!

Not really – but I never had a clear idea in my head of what I wanted to do anyway. I chose to do a degree in physics because I enjoyed that subject at school. From there several doors opened for me and I have made a number of choices along the way that have lead me to where I am now. That’s one of the great things about science – all the theory that you learn can be applied in so many ways in numerous different areas. Because of this no two careers are the same – there is always the opportunity to expand on the areas you are most interested in.
